But that is a pretty arbitrary way to decide about when to
delete. My own opinion is that deprecated code stays as long as
it works without change, but once bit rot breaks it, it doesn’t
get fixed, it gets dropped. That seems like a systematic way of
making the call which balances user desire to delay changes with
developer desire to avoid wasting effort on dead code: it just
stays around as long as it costs nothing to keep it.
