for those who can't watch the video, here's a snippet that uses Mason  
instead of TT:

the template (autocomplete):

     my @suggestions;
     push @suggestions, "$complete_me $_" foreach (1..5);
     $c->res->output( $c->prototype->auto_complete_result 
( \@suggestions ) );
}



here's how easy it was to do the same thing with a db query:

sub suggest : Local {
     my ( $self, $c ) = @_;
     my $complete_me = $c->req->params->{complete_me};
     my @suggestions;
     if ( $complete_me ) {
         my $today = localtime->mysql_date;  # from Time::Piece::MySQL

     }
