update:
Either I'm getting better at sysadmin stuff or the installation files
have
been improved because I went from 2.0.49 -> 2.0.55 and the corresponding
modperl in about 30 minutes (took me 3 days last time) and it did indeed
end the mysterious apr_bucket_read() problem.
